Government should study the following points before deciding on giving additional LPG cylinders
per family in the congress ruled states alone. The differential treatment to some states is bound to
create tricky situations:
1) Is it fair to cap the number of subsidized LPG cylinders per family, higher in Congress ruled states
alone? Will Congress Party bear the additional costs involved from its own party funds?
2) What
happens if the Congress Government decides to give extra 50% cash benefit on
all “am aadmi” schemes for states ruled by their party only? Like in LPG case.
3) When
there are plans to directly transfer subsidy amounts to the beneficiaries’ bank
accounts under “Aadhar” scheme, will giving additional cash benefits to the
people belonging to select states be legally tenable?
4) Such
discriminative policies will only further divide the already fragmented
society. Congress must be forced to implement uniform subsidy scheme for all states.
5) Or they can scrap subsidy altogether.
6) With
Lok Sabha elections not far away Congress’ efforts only seem to be aimed at
retaining power at least in the states they rule. This will only highlight their defeatist mentality even before the elections
